Be Kind Rewind is one of those films where you just know the actors took the part because it sounded like it would be a blast to shoot. In a time when VHS video rental stores were being crowded out by newfangled DVD rental outlets, Danny Glover’s little store hangs onto dear life by a thread. When Mr. Fletcher (Glover) leaves Mike (Bey) in charge for a few days, bumbling conspiracy theorist Jerry (Black) accidentally erases all of the tapes. Jerry and Mike quickly devise a plan to remake the films themselves with a camcorder and extremely low-budget props. These new “Sweded” versions of the films quickly become a hit, but will they keep Mr. Fletcher’s store from being bought out?

This film is high on my list of favorites for its quirky, original plot, and fantastic cast of characters. If you’re looking for a campy, fun film Be Kind Rewind will not disappoint.
